A Zeeland man pleaded guilty to his third drunk driving offense in Allegan County Circuit Court.

Michael Duane Mitchell, Jr., 34, pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated third offense Monday, Sept. 18.

Mitchell was arrested in June in Wayland after a minor accident about 100 feet after leaving a restaurant  on Main Street in Wayland with his wife with him on his motorcycle.

“My wife was adjusting my sunglasses and she slipped off the back of my back,” Mitchell said. “It’s a really small seat.”

The Wayland Area Fire Department treated her for scrapes, he said, and then police arrived and gave him a breathalyzer, which showed his blood alcohol level at .10. Mitchell said he drank three craft beers at the restaurant.

Judge Margaret Zuzich Bakker accepted the plea and set a sentencing hearing for Monday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m. in Allegan County Circuit Court.
