An Allegan man whose violations of probation included running out of the county courthouse and jumping into the Kalamazoo River to avoid officers has been sent to prison.

Brandon Wayne Saylor, 27, was sentenced Monday, Oct. 30, to two to 10 years in prison on the original methamphetamine and bond absconding charge from 2016 and two years to four years on a pair of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police charges from September.

Judge Margaret Zuzich Bakker said, “The court has no choice at this time.”

Bakker said Saylor had failed to complete the Kalamazoo Probation Enhancement Program and a Salvation Army program.

“Then in September, you flee the court house,” she said.

Saylor asked for the chance to get back to “the old Brandon” who his family and friends would recognize and apologized.

“I’m here to tell you, the court and the probation department I’m sorry for my actions,” he said. “I’ve let you down again and again.”

His lawyer, Matt Antkoviak, sought one more chance on Swift and Sure probation for his client.

“I’d ask the court to consider that as an alternative to prison,” Antkoviak said.

Allegan County prosecutor Roberts Kengis recommended prison.

“It’s clear he didn’t want to cooperate with the court and should be sent to prison,” Kengis said.

Saylor was given credit for 322 days already served.
